Mother Nature Can’t Dampen Milk Bowl
The 45th Annual Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl stock car event will go on as scheduled at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road on Sat./Sun., Sept. 27/28, despite a test from Mother Nature. Recent weather forecasts have changed in favor of the event’s taking place, and have prompted race officials to continue with the program as planned.
“We feel like we’ll get a fair chance to race on Saturday, and Sunday should be even better,” said Thunder Road Manager Tom Curley. “In fact, we’ve even got back-up from our friends at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as they’ve kindly offered us the use of their jet-dryer in case we do get wet.”
The weekend begins with Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Qualifying Day on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1:30pm, with Time Trials for the $1,000 Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Pole Award and “Triple 50” qualifying races for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Championship Late Models, qualifying events for the NAPA Tiger Sportsman and Allen Lumber Street Stock divisions, and the championship season finale for the Power Shift Online Junkyard Warriors.
Sunday’s action begins at 1:00pm with the last-chance “B” Feature qualifier for the ACT Late Model Tour, followed by opening ceremonies for the 45th Annual Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl at 1:30pm. The Milk Bowl is a three-segment, cumulatively scored race that awards points in each of the three 50-lap segments (1 point for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, etc.). The finishing order of each segment is reversed to begin the next, leaving, for example, the winner of Segment 1 to start last – 28th – in Segment 2. The driver with the lowest total score is declared the overall Milk Bowl winner, earning $10,000 and the right to kiss the trophy queen – a Vermont dairy cow!
Scott Payea of Milton, VT will battle Montréal’s Patrick Laperle for not only the Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl victory, but also the ACT Late Model Tour Championship. The 26 year-old Payea leads Laperle by just 19 points entering the season finale. Laperle is the two-time and defending Milk Bowl winner. Feature events will also be run to determine the Sportsman and Street Stock divisional champions on Sunday.
Two-day general admission is just $25 for adults and $5 for children (6-12). Admission for Saturday only is $10 for adults and free for kids. Gates open at 10:00am on both days.
