Palmer, Wrenn, Bertrand, Boss, Hutchings & Flammia Among Speedbowl Winners

Waterford, CT — Jason Palmer won the 25-lap Legends Town Fair Tire Finale feature at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday, while it was Shaun Buffington scoring the 2008 Saturday Night Legends championship.

Other feature winners were Norm Wrenn (Pro-4 Modifieds), Todd Bertrand (NEMA Lites), Glenn Boss (N.E Sport Modifieds), Corey Hutchings (Outlaw Stocks), David Flammia Jr. (X-Modified),Steve Barrett (Super-X Cars), Buddy Strede (X-Cars), Kathy Civardi (Women On Wheels Super-X), and Stephanie Bennett (Women On Wheels X-Car).

Executing a daring outside-pass on leader Ryan Morgan, Palmer went-on to score a close victory over Michael Gervais Jr. and Buffington. The top cars flew under the checkers bumper-to-bumper in what was clearly one of the tightest finishes of the season. With his top-3 finish, Buffington clinched the 2008 Saturday Legends title, winning by a scant 2-point margin over Gervais. Palmer, the recently-crowned Wednesday Legends champion, completed the point-battle in third.

Pro-4 Modified 25-lap feature action saw veteran Norm Wrenn snare his seventh victory of the season. Taking the lead following a restart with thirteen remaining, Wrenn finished several car-lengths ahead of Robin Berghman, Andy Major, Rob Richardi Jr., and multi-time series champion Dan Meservey.

Todd Bertrand motored into the lead with sixteen remaining to claim the 25-lap NEMA Lite Midget feature. A caution-free affair, Bertrand opened-up a commanding lead in the final stages of the race, taking an impressive victory over Stephanie Doty, Russ Wood Jr., Anthony Marvuglio, and Jesse Slate.

Topping a full-field of Outlaw Stocks it was Speedbowl veteran Corey Hutchings returning to victory lane wheeling a late model entry in the 25-lap contest. Earlier winner Glenn Boss was second in a N.E. Sport Modified, while rounding-out the top-3 was Buddy Charette in another Modified.

Former Speedbowl regular Glenn Boss parlayed his shoreline oval experience into a victory in the 25-lap N.E. Sport Modified main event. Taking the point at the drop of the green, Boss resisted the challenges of a fast Leo Olivera following a duo of late restarts in the waning laps. Completing the top-5 was Shane Michalski, Rich Ferrera, and Buddy Charette.

In the 25-lap Super-X feature, it was Steve Barrett taking the win, while in the accompanying 25-lapper for the X-Cars, it was Buddy Strede. Stephanie Bennett notched the Women On Wheels X-Car race, while Kathy Civardi was tops in the Super-X division.

Action resumes on day-2 of Town Fair Tire Finale weekend on Sunday with the SK Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, Late Models, Sportsman and Mini Stocks. The traditional pit party at 10:30 am kicks off the program.
