Reliable Welding & Speed Rookie of the Year Titles to be Presented at Stafford Champion’s Banquet

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway will present its 2008 SK Modified®, Late Model, SK Light Modified, and Ltd. Late Model Rookie of the Year awards at its 39th annual Champion’s Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 14, 2008 at La Renaissance in East Windsor. Stafford’s Rookie of the Year awards are sponsored for the seventh consecutive year by Reliable Welding and Speed, located at 85 North Street in Enfield, Connecticut.

Reliable Welding and Speed, which is owned by SK Modified® competitor Brad Hietala and his wife Linda, will present the SK Modified® Rookie of the Year winner with a $700.00 bonus, and the Late Model, SK Light Modified, and Limited Late Model Rookie of the Year winners with a $500.00 bonus each for a total of $2,200. The bonus will be paid out in $100.00 increments next season over the first seven SK Modified® and first five Late Model, SK Light Modified, and Limited Late Model feature events for every event that each Rookie of the Year winner attends and attempts to qualify for.

The top-3 rookies in the SK Modified® division were Steven Reed with 450 points, Corey Hutchings with 362 points, and Keith Carzello with 128 points. The top-3 rookies from the Late Model division were Brian Chapin with 452 points, Duane Noll with 388 points, and Walt Wosko, Jr. with 194 points. The top-3 rookies from the SK Light Modified division were Adam Skowyra with 462 points, Neil Provost, Jr. with 408 points, and Ted Cain with 384 points. The top-3 rookies from the Limited Late Model division were Carla Botticello with 544 points, Dave Yardley, III with 472 points, and Brian Clement with 322 points. Botticello was one of two rookie drivers at Stafford Motor Speedway to reach CARQUEST Victory Lane this season when she took the checkered flag on August 22nd. The other rookie who won was Earl Pelletier in the SK Light Modified division.

“We’re happy to be the presenting sponsor of the Rookie of the Year program for another season,” said Linda Hietala, who along with her husband and Stafford SK Modified® driver Brad, own Reliable Welding and Speed. “Every driver in the paddock area has started out as a rookie at some point in time, and this is a great way for us to be able to give something back to rookie competitors and help them offset some of their racing costs. Stafford Speedway is a first class facility where the competition and class of cars is second to none, and it’s been a lot of fun to be able to give something back to the racers who do business with us.”

“Reliable Welding and Speed has been a great supporter of Stafford, and their continued support of our Rookie of the Year program is a great benefit to our rookie competitors,” said Mark Arute, Stafford Speedway CEO/GM. “It is partners like Reliable Welding and Speed that help make racing at Stafford Speedway what it is today. As our weekly racing program has grown over the past several seasons, Reliable has increased their participation with us. We began the rookie program with two divisions and now we have four divisions supported by Reliable. We have enjoyed a great relationship with Reliable and we hope to be able to continue that relationship well into the future.”
