The 2008 seasons will ceremoniously conclude this weekend for the NASCAR Camping World Series East and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour respective series’ annual awards banquets at Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Conn. Veteran drivers Matt Kobyluck and Ted Christopher will each celebrate their first NASCAR touring championship of their distinguished careers.

Kobyluck will be the guest of honor at the NASCAR Camping World Series East Awards Banquet on Friday, Dec. 12. A veteran driver from Uncasville, Kobyluck compiled four wins and 12 top 10s during the 13-race 2008 season en route to his first career NASCAR Camping World Series East championship. Kobyluck, driver and owner of the No. 40 Mohegan Sun Resort Chevrolet, reached Victory Lane at Watkins Glen International, Music City Motorplex, Adirondack International Speedway and Lime Rock Park in 2008 and finished 210 points ahead of Austin Dillon in the championship standings.

Christopher will be crowned the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion at Mohegan Sun on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the series’ postseason banquet. Christopher registered four wins and 13 top 10s in 16 races to earn his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title this year in the No. 36 Al-Lee Installations Chevrolet owned by Edward Whelan. A resident of Plainville, Conn., Christopher’s title campaign was highlighted by wins at Stafford Motor Speedway, Mansfield Motorsports Park, New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Thompson International Speedway. He finished 127 points ahead of Matt Hirschman in the season standings.

Christopher became the 32nd driver to earn a NASCAR Modified championship in the 61-year history of the division. Throughout the 2008 season, the past champions in NASCAR’s Modified history were honored, dating back to Red Byron’s first title in 1948.
