New NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rookie Of The Year Award
New rewards and recognition are available to first-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series featured division license holders this year. A new Rookie of the Year Award program will determine top rookie performers in each state and province. From those winners, a North American Rookie of the Year will be named.
To be eligible to compete for the award, drivers must be a first-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series featured division license holder.
“The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship system has proved to be very successful and well received by competitors throughout the United States and Canada,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR managing director of racing operations. “Adding a rookie of the year element was a natural next step in recognizing drivers’ accomplishments.”
State or provincial Rookie of the Year Award winners will earn a $1,000 bonus and are determined by the rookie’s highest 18 finishes at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks within a state. The driver with the highest overall points total will be the named the North American Rookie of the Year Award winner.
Since its inception, NASCAR’s local racing series has served as a springboard in the careers of many top-tier NASCAR drivers. Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Kurt and Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte, Jamie McMurray, Elliott Sadler and Brian Vickers all began their careers in the NASCAR short-track program.
