Budweiser Returns to Sponsor 13th Annual Modified Nationals SK-150

Waterford, CT — When the Waterford Speedbowl gates open for the 59th consecutive season March 28-29 for the 13th annual Modified Nationals, the region’s premier SK Modified® event will welcome back a familiar partner. Budweiser will once again sponsor the 150-lap thriller. Boasting $20,000 in prize money, the event was the first of its kind for the SK Modifieds. The $5,000 winner’s share is the most lucrative in the region and historically attracts a banner field of competitors vying for bragging rights and the big payday.

The Budweiser-Mod Nationals relationship enters its twelfth year and continues a long standing tradition. “The support of Budweiser and Levine Distributing is paramount in starting the Speedbowl season off on an incredibly high note” offered Speedbowl owner and promoter Terry Eames. “We’re looking forward to a great 2009 with Budweiser, expanding the scope of our relationship to include some additional excitement for our fans and competitors throughout the season. We can’t thank them enough for their commitment in light of the current economic challenges.”

The Speedbowl will once again proudly serve selections from the Anheuser Busch product family including the world’s largest selling beer, Bud Light and Budweiser.

The Modified Nationals debuted in 1997, with infrequent Speedbowl competitor Steve Chowansky claiming the inaugural event. From then it was evident the Nationals would pit the Speedbowl’s best against some of the finest open wheel competitors throughout the Northeast, often including wheelmen from NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour. The “home team” has often prevailed, but not without some classic battles over the years. The only drivers with two SK-150 wins are the defending Mod Nationals winner, seven-time and defending Track Champion Dennis Gada (2003, 2008) and Eric Berndt (2001, 2002) who won a record $8,000 first-place check in 2002.

Entries continue to be filed for the SK-150, which shapes up to be one of the most exciting editions yet.
