Norwood Arena Reunion Set for Sunday June 7 at Bezema Buick, Pontiac, GMC
Norwood, MA — The 5th Annual Norwood Arena Reunion has been set for Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Bezema Buick, Pontiac, GMC. Some of the drivers expected to be on hand for the fifth gathering of the faithful include such legendary drivers as; Dave Dion of Hudson, NH, Bill Slater of E. Hartford, CT, Leo Cleary, a Hanover native, and Billy Harmon, originally from CT, along with Stoughton’s Jerry Capazolli. Other standout drivers who tore up the high-banked quarter-mile are expected to make their commitment to attend this highlight of the New England motorsports season.
Restored antique race cars from NEAR, STARS and ACOT are expected to return for their annual appearance at the Bezema dealership on US Rt. 1 on the well known auto mile in Norwood. In addition other racecars, of all types, are welcome. Norwood Arena during its 25-year existence hosted Cutdowns, forerunners of the Super-Modifieds, Modifieds, Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks. Norwood Arena first hosted midget racecars before changing over to stockcars. The track also offered sports car and flat track motorcycle racing on the oval.
The venue also conducted drag racing action on an eighth mile track set up on the paved parking lot for a few years.
The Norwood Arena Reunion is also open to all types of racecars and motorcycles and will be welcomed. Also invited to the annual party are antiques, muscle cars and classics. The first 80 vehicles to arrive will get a souvenir dash plaque. Also, there will be a trophy for the best looking racecar, motorcycle and restored street vehicles judged to best in show. Expected to return is NorwoodArena.com Webmaster Dave Thomas who will give his annual show, which has been updated on an ongoing basis. Coastal 181, publisher and distributor of motorsports books, is planning to attend again. In addition collectable vendors and other displays will be featured.
The Bezema family, owners of the dealership, will feed the assembled crowd a light lunch in the adjacent Marty’s Cafe. It all gets underway at 11 a.m. and will run to 4 p.m., Rain or Shine.
Mark Sunday, June 7, 2008 on your calendar because this year’s edition of the Norwood Arena Reunion will be a chance for you to meet and greet some of the best drivers who raced in that era.
