Janovic, Coby, Ready for True Value Modified Series Debut
Waterford, CT — When the True Value Modified Racing Series competes at the historic Waterford, CT; Speedbowl this Saturday night, May 9, several popular Connecticut competitors that know the Waterford race track well will try to become a first time winner with the New England based touring division. Last season saw Buxton, ME; veteran David Pinkham win the event. He had never seen the Waterford facility prior to his first run there.
Two drivers will be making their first ever starts with the New England bases series. Both would like to do well in front of the home town crowd.
Doug Coby, Milford, CT; says he’s ready to compete in his new ride, the Czarnecki Brothers entry, formerly driven by Ted Christopher. “Hopefully it’s the first of many,” said Coby, talking about races on the True Value schedule. “Really looking forward to it.”
As for Rob Janovic, the 2007 Waterford SK modified champion, he too is anxious to get going, as he’s been busily preparing his racer doing all the things needed to be ready for the opener. Janovic indicated during the winter that he plans to run as many TVMRS dates as possible this season with bigger plans being considered for 2010.
Jeff Pearl, 1998 SK modified champion at Waterford, is also entered in this Saturday’s event. Pearl, no stranger to victory lane with 30 wins in Speedbowl modified action, ran strong with the TVMRS last August.
Windsor Locks, CT; veteran Les Hinckley, victorious at Waterford last season, is a strong candidate for victory. Hinckley always runs well at Waterford. Ed Dachenhausen, Danbury, CT; another driver with Waterford experience, is a strong favorite as is defending series champion, Chris Pasteryak. Pasteryak was a winner last season at Waterford, a track where he started his career.
Series regular Mike Holdridge, Madison, CT; also launched his career at the historic oval. He’ll be piloting his brand new Troyer mount.
In six races at “The Bowl,” six different drivers have visited victory lane
Bobby Grigas in 2006, Rob Summers and Kirk Alexander in 2007, David Pinkham, Les Hinckley, and Chris Pasteryak, in 2008. Grigas, Summers, and Pasteryak were first time TVMRS winners.
Saturday’s race is the second event of the season for the TVMRS. They opened their campaign last weekend at Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH with Rob Goodenough nabbing his second series win. The True Value tour will return to Waterford in August with the ISMA supermodifieds and NEMA midgets. Race time May 9 is 5 PM.
