Seekonk Speedway to Try Again

Seekonk, MA — They say the third time is a charm, and Seekonk Speedway management is hoping Mother Nature turns into a race fan this weekend. For the third week, The Action Track of the East will attempt to get in their 64th season opener. Originally slated for Sunday, May 3, the feature events, highlighted by a 75 lap, $2,000 to win ARC Pro Stock main event has been postponed twice for weather.

Time trials set the starting field for the qualifiers for the Pro Stocks on that Sunday, and they were 5 laps into their second heat when the rains came. Mike Brightman was the leader when the race was stopped, with Ryan Vanasse, Dave Darling, Wayne Dion and Tom Scully Jr. rounding out the top five. The first heat saw reigning Champion Fred Astle Jr pick up the win over Ken Spencer, Jake Vanada, Rob Murphy and Kyle Casper. Fred Astle was fastest during time trials with a time of 12.314. Mike Brightman posted the second fastest time with Ken Spencer third, and Tom Scully Jr and Kyle Casper both setting the fourth fastest time. The winner of the $2,000 to win 75 lap extravaganza will be a guaranteed starter for the PASS 150 on August 15.

In Late Model heat action, Jon Dickerman showed he is ready for the season in a dominating win. He finished ahead of Ryan Vanasse, Kevin Casper, Dennis Stampfl and Frank Duquette. Kyle Casper was the victor in the second heat over Bill Bernard, Mike Cavallaro, Randy Burr and Al Clements III.

Three Street Stock heats were needed for the over 30 cars in the pits.  Reigning champ Sparky Arsenault was the front runner under the checkered in qualifier #1. Mark Henshaw, Ryan Lineham, Jim Silvia and Scott Serydynski rounded out the top five. Tony Oliviera, Chris Rioux, Steve Axon, Paul Newcomb and Jay Steely were the top five in the second heat, while Mike Mitchell, Justin Travis, Crystal Serydynski, Bob Pelland III and Paul Lallier were the top five in round three.

The Seekonk Sport Trucks ran their qualifiers without any problems, with second generation racer Jody Tripp leading the field across the stripe in round 1, followed by Rick Martin, Hugh Bowser, Russ Borges and Mike Ronhock. Round two went to three time reigning champion Mike Cavallaro over John Paiva, Jason Heroux, Steve Dumas and Darryl Church.

The Pure Stocks, originally slated for a 25 lap feature only have seen their opening day presence increased with 2 qualifying heats to start the action this coming Saturday. Also added were an extra 5 laps for the Seekonk Sport Trucks, whose feature will now be 25 laps.

Competitors that were not able to make opening day are encouraged to join the remainder of the action, and will start at the rear of the field in their respective division qualifier or main event.

General Admission for Saturday, May 16 has been decreased to $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors, and kids 12 and under are FREE. If you have your admission ticket from opening day, as was announced on May 3, your ticket will still be honored for general admission and for pit area admission. New tickets must be purchased if you do not have these.

The pit area gate will open at 2pm on Saturday, with the main gates for general admission to open at 4. 6 pack sized coolers are welcome, but alcohol, glass and cans are not permitted. Personal folding chairs and stadium seating are not permitted as well, but fans are welcome to bring in blankets and cushions to sit on. Rest backs are also available for rental.
