Tremont Repeats at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN, VT – With one dominant performance, Ken Tremont Jr. reached two milestones in his racing career Sunday night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Tremont overpowered the field to pick up his second straight win in the 358-modified feature at the Bowl. The win marked the 60th time Tremont has been to victory lane at the Bowl, and was also the 275th career win of what is certain to be a Hall of Fame career.

Ron Proctor set the pace for the first 14 laps on Red/White/Blue Night, but Tremont, who started sixth, got to the front quickly and grabbed the lead on a restart on lap 15.

From there, Tremont went on cruise control, and steadily pulled away from Proctor. When the checkered flag fell, Tremont was over five seconds ahead of Proctor, who has his best finish since a runner-up performance to Robert King last year.

Ray Hoard crossed the finish line third, his best run of the 2009 campaign. Vince Quenneville Jr. finished fourth, and Tim Laduc was fifth.

Frank Hoard III became the fourth different winner in as many weeks in the 25-lap budget sportsman feature. Hoard started third, and he and polesitter Hunter Bates instantly locked into a whale of a tussle for the lead. Midway through the feature, they began slicing through lapped traffic, but Hoard was never more than a couple of car lengths back.

Hoard finally made his move with two laps to go, rocketing into the lead and beating Bates to the finish line by 0.874 seconds. Cullen Howe, Tim Hartman Jr., and D.J. Brundige completed the top five.

Jeff Washburn held off Chuck Towslee to record his second win of the year in the pro-street stock feature, and Paul Braymer nipped Rob Ketcham to come away with his first career victory in the limited class.

The Empire Lightning Sprints made their first appearance of the season at the Bowl, with Don Harvey getting the victory. Mike Kiser did his best to stay with Harvey, who went out on the point on lap 12 of the 20-lapper, but Kiser had to settle for second as Harvey recorded his first ELS win of the campaign.

Elliott Lussier was victorious in the mini/stock main, and Chris Murray was first under the checkered flag in the Duke stocks.

A busy night of racing is scheduled for Sunday, June 21, as it will be Kids Night, which will include kiddie rides. The racing card will feature a leg of the Ridge Runners Series for budget sportsman, which will include a 30-lap feature for the top 24 qualified cars, and a 30-lap main event for non-qualifiers. Although the 358-modifieds will have the night off, pro-street stocks, limited, and mimi/duke stocks will be in action, with racing starting at 6:45 p.m.
