Speedbowl’s ‘Night of Destruction’ July 5 – YankeeRacer.com

Speedbowl’s ‘Night of Destruction’ July 5

Waterford Speedbowl will send out the 4th of July holiday weekend with a bang, several in fact, as it plays host to its annual ‘Night of Destruction’ on Sunday, July 5.  The event has come to be known as an affordable night of family fun and entertainment, capping a weekend of great racing and celebration of summer.

Sunday’s festivities include a full size demolition derby known for its richter scale hits, testing the endurance and fortitude of Detroit’s finest fabrication.   The four cylinder demo has become a hit as well.  While the hits might not be quite as earth-shattering, the strategy and absolute carnage remain as exciting and amusing as the full-size smash fest.

The popular Speedbowl trailer race also returns.  The rules are simple attach a trailer hitch and trailer to a tow vehicle and race around the ‘Bowl’s three-eighths mile oval.  All trailers are allowed, however open flatbed style trailers must be ‘loaded’.  The trailer contents themselves are part of the madness and mayhem and quickly become obstacles on the track.  Watch as competitors are knocked out if either their trailer is successfully broken free from the tow vehicle, or if their car becomes disabled.  The last machine and trailer intact, running and rolling wins.

A ski race, featuring front-wheel drive cars mounted with ‘ski’s’ in place of rear wheels add to the mayhem as cars pirouette their way around the ‘Bowl.  Other surprises as only the Speedbowl delivers are also in store.

Grandstands open at 5:30pm and the destruction gets underway at 7:00pm.  Adult grandstands admission is $14 with youth ages 6-14 just $5. Children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge.

On Wednesday July 1, the Speedbowl has another round of Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday while on Saturday, July 4th it’s the popular

mid-season Pepsi 300 event featuring extra-distance races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.  Ticket holders from July 1 or July 4’s events are encouraged to hold on to their event tickets to receive $2 off adult grandstands admission for Sunday’s event.
