Alexander Leads Flag To Flag In Monadnock Victory
Winchester, NH — Kirk Alexander of West Swanzey, New Hampshire drove from the outside pole position and into a lead he would never relinquish, winning the “Firecracker 100” for the True Value Modified Series at the Monadnock Speedway on Saturday night.
Alexander was pursued early in the race by Les Hinckley, but Hinckley was no match for Alexander during the second half of the event, and he settled for a second place finish in front of the packed grandstands at the quarter-mile oval.
Rowan Pennink finished a close third, with Dwight Jarvis and Rob Goodenough rounding out the top five.
The race was slowed by eleven caution periods, mostly for spinouts. Mike Douglas Jr., was spun out of a probable fourth place finish after contact from Jim Boniface with 87 laps completed.
Steve Masse retook the point lead from Jon McKennedy after a hard fought sixth place finish. McKennedy lost three laps in the pit area having a broken suspension bolt replaced.
There were 25 race teams competing, and all were allowed to start the main with no consolation race being run. The race was completed in just under 57 minutes.
Next on the schedule for the True Value Modified Series is the “Port City 100 Presented By LATICRETE”, which takes place on Friday, July 10 and pays a $500 bonus to the race winner, plus a pay increase for every finishing position, courtesy of LATICRETE.
