Slingshots Debut with New England Doubleheader at Wachusett Valley and Jolly Roger Motorsports Park on Friday and Saturday, July 24 & 25
Westminster, MA. This weekend Friday and Saturday, July 24 -25 will see Slingshots racing in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for the first time ever. Sideways Promotions President Pete Giammalvo has watched the popularity of these vehicles soar the last couple years. Last fall a test was held at the Wachusett Valley Riders Club 1/5th Mile in Winchendon, MA with great results.
Connecticut driver Kenny Johnson deemed WVR “very race able.” These spec cars are powered by modified and sealed v – twin Briggs & Stratton Vanguard motors. Fully suspended these vehicles look like miniature dirt Modifieds and the v twin motor has a nice muffled bark to it. The goal of Sideways Promotions is to lay the groundwork this season with a New England Series in 2010. Drivers and their families are traveling from New York and Pennsylvania for this historic weekend.
Another group making the weekend tour is the Eastern Outlaw Quarter Sprint Racing Club. They are a small racing club that races at Hillside Raceway in Westport, Ma. The Hillside club races Open Wheel Quarter Sprint race cars that are the same size as 250cc Mini Sprint cars. They have two divisions in that club, one division runs cars that are 11 hp, methanol powered, Briggs & Stratton flat-top racing engines. The other division runs 11 hp, methanol powered, Honda overhead cam racing engines.
Tickets are only $10 at each track for adults. Jolly Roger Moto-Sport Park, in E. Lempster, NH, is a little over one hour north of Winchendon Ma. Both tracks can soak up a lot of water so don’t let a little rain shower scare you away from this exciting event.
