August to be one hectic month at Seekonk Speedway

Seekonk, MA — With the month of August in southern New England comes the Haze, the Heat and the Humidity. Add one more to that list. Hectic. The month kicks off with a double header weekend on August 1st and 2nd.

On Saturday, August 1st, the ARC Saturday night action will continue with a full night of racing from the Pro Stocks, Late Models, Seekonk Sport Trucks, and Street Stocks. With the season rolling down the second half, each lap could make the difference between sitting on top of the championship chase, or looking up from underneath. The chase in the Pro Stocks has changed hands three times in the past three weeks. Dave Darling fell out of the lead two weeks ago when Tom Scully Jr took over. A week later, defending champ Fred Astle Jr sat atop the standings. This week, Darling finds himself back at the top. The Seekonk Sports Trucks have seen a similar battle between Jody Tripp and Rick Martin. Martin now holds the top spot by 3 points. Ryan Vanasse has dominated the Late Model chase from opening day, and Mike Mitchell has held the top spot in the Street Stocks for the past few weeks. On top of all of that, Rick Martin is ONE win away from tying the all-time win record at Seekonk Speedway.

On Sunday, August 2nd, the Army National Guard will present the Mid-Summer Thrill Show. Featuring Spectator Drags, Monster Trucks, Enduro Drags for cars and trucks, Figure-8 racing for cars and trucks, and more. There will also be a drifting display and enduro racing. Action starts at 5pm for this event.

On Saturday, August 8, the biggest Midget race on the East Coast converges on the track that held the very first NEMA race back in 1953. The 13th Annual Airgas Boston Louis Seymour Memorial will come to town, and along with the NEMA Lites, there should be in excess of 50 open cockpit winged warriors on sight.

For the first time ever, the Pro All Stars Series comes to the birthplace of the Pro Stock. The Super Late Model touring series started out with Pro Stocks from all over New England, and has toured most of the New England States with the exception of Massachusetts. Until now, that is. Cirelli Foods will present the longest Pro Stock/Super Late Model race in the history of Seekonk Speedway on August 15th, with the Cirelli Foods 150.

The True Value Modified Tour returns for their second points event on August 22nd for the Del’s Lemonade 100. The open wheeled ground pounders put on some of the best action at any speedway they visit, and Seekonk has traditionally set the tone for this series. This is the second of three visits for the True Value Modifieds at Seekonk Speedway in 2009.

On Saturday, August 29, Kraze’s Speed Equipment of Seekonk presents the Pro4 Modifieds, in their third visit to the 1.3 mile oval this season. Norm Wrenn and Cody Cleary have visited Victory Lane at the Konk this season. It will also be the annual Sport Truck 30 for the Seekonk Sport Trucks. This headlines their biggest event of the season.

The Allison Legacy North Race Series will make their second appearance at Seekonk on Friday, August 14th. Add in the Fast Friday Series, which returns on Friday, August 7th, with the Pure Stocks, Sport4’s, the Seekonk Youth Racing Association and Kart Racing, and you have an action packed month of August.
