PRACTICE: Riverhead Raceway Regulars Lead The Way
Top times turned in by local drivers
Riverhead, NY — Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice session had a distinct hometown flavor as five competitors from Riverhead Raceway’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified division made up the seven fastest cars.
Chuck Steuer, who has three career Coors Light Pole Awards while competing in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at Riverhead, paced the 32 car field in the one-hour practice session with a fast lap of 12.059 seconds (74.633 mph). Frank Vigarolio Jr. was second fastest at 12.109 (74.325).
Eric Beers was the fastest NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour full-time driver during practice at 12.117 seconds (72.267 mph) and was followed in the top five by Howie Brode at 12.129 (74.202) and Jamie Tomaino at 12.147 (74.092).
Riverhead regulars Dave Brigati and Bill Park recorded the sixth and seventh fastest times in the session. Park earned his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Coors Light Pole Award in this event a year ago.
Time trials are set for 4:30 p.m.
