Chris Igo Jr picks up first 750 win. Hutchins, Cestodio and Therrien repeat in Fast Friday action

Seekonk, MA — On Friday, August 21, Easton’s Chris Igo Jr picked up his first win in the Seekonk Youth Racing Association 750 division. Dave Hutchins Jr won his third 600 class feature, and put a little distance in the championship chase over Nick Lascoula and Willie Sanchez. Scott Cestodio picked up his division leading fifth win in the Pure Stocks, putting more distance between he and Randy Moretti.

Melissa Charette of Taunton MA lead the first lap of the 25 lap Pure Stock feature, but was passed by Jamie Salley by lap two. Randy Moretti was the fist to challenge Salley for the lead, but could not get past the Swansea native. By lap seven, the reigning Pure Stock Champion Cestodio was sitting in third, and overtook Randy for the runner up position.

Cestodio rolled in second for only a few laps before overtaking Salley for the lead on lap 11. They ran that way for another lap before the only caution came out when early race leader Charette was spun in turn 4. Amy Arsenault got credit for the assist. Nick Uhrig was up to fourth before the caution came out, and had about a straightaway of cushion over Lou Robinson who was up to fifth from his 15^th starting position.
Once back underway, the race was for second, as Cestodio pulled away. Salley held on for second for a couple of laps before a hard charging Lou Robinson slid under for the position. Uhrig moved into third with Salley and John Robidoux rounding out the top five at the end.

Chris Igo Jr jumped out into the lead at the start of the 750 feature, but was pressured for the entire 25 lap distance. First it was Adam Swift who challenged for the lead. By lap two, Jake Spillers moved into the runner-up position and put pressure on the leader. As Spillers sat second, Casey Sanchez moved to the outside, and looked poised to make a run to the front. He and Spillers traded the second spot back and forth for several laps while Nick Ladyga and Stephen Gardiner Jr ran side by side for fourth. All while traveling on the rear bumper of Igo.

Ladyga was on a mission, and moved up two positions on lap 13, to move into second. There he glued himself to Igo. As they came off turn four on lap 15, Igo got sideways in front of the field, facing the infield and then the wall, but held on to the IDAD.com mount and maintained the lead. The only caution came out on lap 17, when Spillers spun in turn three and Kyle DeSouza was collected.

Ladyga tried to hold on to the outside of Igo, but fell behind once more, and followed Igo to the checkers. Sanchez wound up third, with Gardiner and Jacob Swift rounding out the top five.

The save that Igo made on lap 15 made him the unanimous choice for the Ultra-Flex Race Bodies $50.00 savings bond, presented by Carl & Donna Gustafson of Ultra-Flex Race Bodies in Warwick, RI. The recipient is chosen from various criteria, from overall improvement, best move, hard luck, or other choices.

Dave Hutchins Jr made it three on the season, as he looks for his first career championship. Nick Lascoula took the early lead in the 600 25 lap feature that went non-stop. Hutchins moved in quickly and challenged for the lead. The duo ran wheel to wheel for several laps, swapping the lead back and forth. In the first fifteen laps of the race, Lascoula led eight laps, while Hutchins led seven, all while racing side by side.

While the leaders races aside of each other, Branden Dion, fresh off his first career win, and Tyler Boudreau, running his third ever race, ran the same way, only a couple of car lengths behind third place runner Jason Enos II. They ran the last twenty laps for the fourth position, swapping fourth back and fourth between them several times. But neither could get a run on Enos.

In the end, Hutchins proved to be too strong for Lascoula, and settled in front for good on lap fifteen, and never looked back. Hutchins opened up a several length lead and picked up his third win of the season. Lascoula finished second, with Enos, Boudreau and Dion rounding out the top five.

Taylor Therrien of Coventry held off Steve Heath for the win in the Sport4 division.

Fast Friday action continues on Friday, August 29, with a full night of action, The Pure Stocks, Sport4’s, and Seekonk Youth Racing Association will be joined by the NEMA Lites.
