Big Labor Day weekend ahead for Speedbowl
Waterford, CT — The Waterford Speedbowl will turn its attention to an active eight day stretch when it hosts four exciting events, led by Labor Day weekend’s Thunder on the Sound and Back to School Bash doubleheader. The Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday series also comes to a close and champions will be crowned.
Saturday’s Thunder on The Sound, presented by the Connecticut National Guard, is highlighted by twin 25-lap feature events for the SK Modifieds. The other three NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will also compete in 25-lap races and be joined by the Legends Cars, NEATV Truck Series, and Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday X-Car and Super X-Car divisions. They too will go 25-laps in distance. The Bandolero’s will compete in a 10-lap event. In total, ten feature events are slated for one big night of racing with the main events to begin at 5:00pm. Adult grandstands admission is $20, with youth ages 6 through 14 just $5, and all children 5 and under free. The gates open and practice gets underway at 1:00pm. Speedbowl fans in attendance will be treated to giveaways and other surprises from Connecticut National Guard, the event sponsor.
The ‘Bowl will stay active the following day, September 6, with the annual summer-ending family fun 97.7 WCTY Back to School Bash. Nothing on wheels will be safe from destruction as the Speedbowl has its first ever rollover contest, popular and unpredictable trailer race, speedway bowling and ski race. A full size and four cylinder demo derby help round out the smashfest. The popular HDRA 100’ drags will also be on hand, providing any registered street car the opportunity to compete head to head in the elimination rounds. Other Speedbowl surprises are in store when the action gets underway at 7:00pm. Adult admission is $14, youth 6 through 14 are $5, and children 5 and under are free.
The final two Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesdays bookend Labor Day weekend, competing on September 2 and September 9. The champions will be decided in the X-Cars, Super X-Cars, X-Modifieds and Bandolero’s. The September 9 event was added to the schedule to meet popular demand given the numerous rain-outs that plagued the race season. Admission is just $7 for adults with all youth age 14 and under admitted free, and the events begin promptly at 7:00pm.
