Seekonk Late Models gear up for 50 lapper. Pro Stocks return with Streets and Trucks
Seekonk, MA — With two points events left on the season, on Saturday, September 5, the Late Models are gearing up for their third 50 lap main event of the season. The Pro Stocks are back after a two week absence, and the Seekonk Sport Trucks and Street Stocks will also be in action. The Pro’s, Trucks and Streets have three points events left.
Bill Bernard won his first career Late Model feature in the first half-century grind in June, holding off the charges of Gerry DeGasparre Jr. When the second 50 lap grind came upon the schedule in August, Gerry DeGasparre Jr climbed to the top in the Phil’s Propane Classic. The winner of this event will pick up and extra $100.00, while second and third place finishers will earn an extra $50.00 each with the Phil’s Propane Contingency.
With two events left in the 64th season points chase, Ryan Vanasse has all but clinched the top spot in the championship chase. All he has to, is finish in the top 15 in each of the features to clinch his first career title. Gerry DeGasparre’s reign of three in a row looks like it will come to a halt, but don’t think that he has given up. Coming off one of his worst finish in his career, DeGasparre will be up for the challenge. Kevin Casper, Mike Cavallaro and Bill Bernard sit third through fifth.
The Pro Stocks have been off for two weeks, as the PASS Tour and the True Value Mods came to town. Dave Darling is fresh off his fifth win of the season, and holds a 17 point advantage over reigning Champ Fred Astle Jr. Tom Scully Jr sits 29 points behind in third. Mike Brightman and Rob Murphy are fourth and fifth in the standings.
The Seekonk Sport Trucks have been dominated by Rick Martin and Jody Tripp, with nine and six wins respectively. Martin holds a 15 point lead over Tripp, in his bid for his fifth Seekonk title. John Paiva, Lenny Guy and rookie Kyle DeSouza round out the top five.
Mike Mitchell has opened up the larges Street Stock points lead in the past several years, and sits 38 points ahead of defending champion Sparky Arsenault. Mark Henshaw Jr, Ryan Lineham and Mike Lema round out the top five.
The green flag unfurls at 6pm on Saturday. Adult admission is just $12.00, with kids 12 and under FREE. For more advanced tickets and more information, check out the website at seekonkspeedway.com.
