Another rainout for Seekonk’s Fast Friday. One more left for 2009

Seekonk, MA — Once again, Mother Nature forced the cancellation of a Seekonk Speedway Fast Friday event. With the cancellation of 9/11, the schedule shows one last show on Friday 9/18. On this night, the 2009 Fast Friday Champions will be crowned.

In the Pure Stocks, defending champion, Scott Cestodio has positioned himself for a second consecutive crown in this entry level division. It took until week 3 for Cestodio to visit Victory Lane, but since then, he has picked up five of the last ten events, opening a comfortable lead in the 2009 championship chase. He goes into the final night of racing with a 55 point advantage. He will need to start the feature and he will become the second driver to win two Pure Stock titles. This appears to be his final one, as Scott is leaning to making the move into the ever competitive Street Stocks in 2010.

While the race for the title is all but over, the battle for second is a tight one. Randy Moretti has been the model of consistency, as he sits second in points, 7 points ahead of 3 time winner Liquid Lou Robinson, and 25 ahead of four time winner Nick Uhrig. In the battle for the top five, Amy Arsenault goes into the night in fifth, but a last semester of school is forcing her out of the final events. Oakdale CT’s Dirk Eykelhoff is only 11 points out of fifth, with Doug Benoit lurking another 24 points behind.

The Seekonk Youth Racing Association is gearing up for a great battle in the 750 class. Defending 600 Champion Jake Spillers made the mover into the ultra-competitive 750 class, and hasn’t skipped a beat. With one feature win, he holds a slim 7 point lead over Kyle DeSouza, who started out the season in Victory Lane. Casey Sanchez sits only 18 points out, and Christopher Igo Jr, fresh off his first win in the 750 class is only 20 points out of the lead. This is a battle that will come down to the wire.

David Hutchins Jr rolled out of the gate fast and furious, and has picked up 3 wins this season in the 600 SYRA class. That domination has put him 42 points ahead of Nick Lascuola in the chase for the title. Dave has been competing with the 600 class for three years, and has become one of the fan favorites, as well as a veteran in the SYRA division. This second generation racer needs to take the green on this final night to clinch his first title. Lascuola only has an 11 point cushion over Branden Dion in the battle for second. Kaitlyn Donovan sixth 18 points behind, while Carl Medeiros Jr sits one point behind Medeiros. Will Sanchez is 2 points out of the top five, and if the cards fall his way, he could vault as high as second in the final standings.

In the Sport4 division, Steven Heath holds a slim 3 point advantage over Taylor Therrien in the standings.

Come down to catch the final Fast Friday event of 2009, as we celebrate the 64th group of champions on Friday, September 18. Adult admission is just $5.00 for the night, with kids 12 and under FREE. For advance ticket sales, visit seekonkspeedway.com.
