Rising Star Chase Elliott Files North-South Shootout Entry

Lexington, NC — When the CRA Super Late Model Series sanctions it’s first ever event in the state of North Carolina on November 6&7, 2009 as part of the 7th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout TM it will be a first for one of their rising young talents as well. Second-generation driver Chase Elliott of Dawsonville, GA, is among the first to file an entry for the WearCrete Diamond Concrete Polishing North-South Shootout 125. When Elliott heads to the North-South Shootout it will be the first time competing at the famed half-mile tri-oval of Concord Speedway.

“When we first were approached about the race, it looked like it would be one of the biggest races of the year for the Super Late Models; comparable to the Snow Ball Derby,” said Elliott. “We are excited to be a part of it. I was supposed to run at Concord a few weeks back but the race was cancelled. I’m looking forward to racing there for the first time and to running well at the Shootout.”

When Elliott finally does get to the North-South Shootout on November 6&7, 2009, he likely will have competed in 30 plus races this season. As a rookie in the stock car ranks, Elliott has taken what may be considered an unconventional approach to the 2009 season. He has not settled into a home track or home series; instead he has raced with a host of different series at a number of different speedways, primarily in the southeast, including the CRA Super Series, ASA Southeast Asphalt Series, Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS), Viper Series and at a number of local short tracks in the Pro and Super Late Model divisions.

It may be unconventional but it is strategic for a young driver who has great aspirations in racing with the ultimate destination the Sprint Cup Series.

“It has been a fun way to get experience with different cars, different drivers, and different rules,” said Elliott.

After achieving tremendous success in go-karts, Bandoleros, and Legends, Elliott competed in his first Late Model event on March 28th, 2009 at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Since his debut, the young driver has captured two very impressive milestones by becoming the youngest winner to win in both the ASA Southeast Asphalt Series and the Pro All Star Series (PASS).

The young man who is wise beyond his years appreciates the magnitude of these accomplishments.

“It is pretty neat,” said Elliott. “It is a pretty good accomplishment and I feel very fortunate that both [ASA and PASS] let me run with them. If they didn’t let me run I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

Elliott regards winning the final ASA Southeast Asphalt Series event of 2009 as one of the greatest accomplishments of his career.

“We didn’t know it at the time but it was the last race that they ran,” said Elliott. “It was the last chance to win and I did. It was pretty cool.”

A win in the prestigious North-South Shootout would be a crowning achievement on Chase Elliott’s building resume.

A full-field of strong competitors from across the country is expected to take part in the WearCrete Diamond Concrete Polishing North-South Shootout 125. There will be plenty of competition for young Chase Elliott, who will be up for the challenge.

Elliott like so many others is looking forward to the 7th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout and the addition of the CRA Super Series.

“CRA is a good series,” said Elliott. “They are very organized, they keep things rolling. I was disappointed when I first heard about the cancellation of the ASA race but CRA is a really good series. I think the race will be just as good if not better.”
