Will Sixth Different Winner Score at Seekonk Modified Race?

Seekonk, MA — When the True Value Modified Racing Series rolls into Seekonk Speedway, Seekonk, MA., this weekend, a hotly contested points battle for the 2009 championship will continue, and the possibility of a sixth different winner could be a reality.

East Chelmsford, MA., driver, Jon McKennedy, in search of his first ever modified championship anywhere, will take a 25 point lead over Rob Goodenough,W.Swanzey, NH., into the historic speedway, creating another great finish to an exciting season for the sixth year series. The season finale for the TVMRS will be at Lee, NH in two weeks.

There is plenty of business to take care of this weekend to set the stage for the Lee race. Series teams are preparing for their last stop of the year at the “Cement Palace.”

Qualifying races to determine the 24 car starting field for Sundays 100 lap green- flag race will take place on Saturday afternoon, and a strong field of racers from throughout the northeast is expected to enter.

The point standings will be on everyone’s mind this weekend. McKennedy has won at Seekonk this year; Goodenough is still in search of his first win at the “Cement Palace.”

Steven Masse, Bellingham, MA., has snuck by Rowan Pennink, Northampton, PA., in the point standings and is only 34 points out of first place. Pennink and defending TVMRS champion, and two-time Seekonk winner this season, Chris Pasteryak,Lisbon, CT., make up the top five.

The holiday weekend special has proven to be a highly competitive event for the series.

Five different drivers have visited victory lane. Les Hinckley, Windsor Locks, CT., was victorious in 2004, Andy Seuss, Hampstead, NH., nabbed the 2005 event, Dave Berghman, Seekonk, captured the 2006 race, fellow local driver Vinnie Annarummo, Swansea, MA., scored a popular win in 2007, with Pasteryak taking down the win a year ago on his way to the 2008 title.

Qualifying races begin at 1:30 PM on Saturday with feature races at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
