Pro Fours Cap Off 2009 Season with Prestigious World Series of Speedway Racing – YankeeRacer.com

Pro Fours Cap Off 2009 Season with Prestigious World Series of Speedway Racing

N. Easton, MA — This weekend, October 23-24, 2009, the Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) will put an exclamation point on their 2009 season. The four cylinder modifieds will take part in the highly acclaimed World Series of Speedway Racing at the Thompson Int’l Speedway, an event which the Club has been taking part in for many years.

The World Series will be the fourteenth and final event of a season which has seen four different feature winners. Veteran driver Norm Wrenn has amassed an astonishing ten wins with Cory Cleary, Franky Perry, and Robin Berghman being the only other victors. By virtue of his stellar performance, Wrenn will officially be coronated the 2009 PFMNE champion at Thompson. Wrenn is not the only one who will be crowned a champion this weekend, however, as Stan Mertz will be declared the 2009 Limited Pro Four Modified Champion.

While the champions have already been decided, there are still several hotly contested point battles which will be settled Saturday night. A narrow six-point margin separates second place Brian Vincent and third place Phil Lausier. While Mertz is guaranteed the Limited Championship, he has quite a battle on his hand for a place in the top five of the overall standings. One point is his advantage over Pro Four veteran Rob Richardi, Jr. Dan Meservey – one of the founding members of the Pro Fours – is trying to get his way into the top ten in the standings, as he currently is on the outside looking in as George Sherman boasts a three-point advantage over the Cape Cod veteran. There will be plenty to watch this weekend as all these questions will be answered.

Wrenn is looking for his third consecutive Pro Four victory at the World Series, while several others would like to snap the veteran driver’s streak.

Practice and qualifying will take place Friday, with the feature event scheduled for Saturday evening. Stay tuned to www.pro4mods.com for all of the latest up-to-date information on this weekend’s season-ending event.
