York, Maine Native Amanda Wright Named as Miss Sprint Cup Representative

Loudon, NH –Amanda Wright, a York, Maine native, has been named as a Miss Sprint Cup representative for 2010.

While attending a race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last season, Amanda stopped by the Sprint Experience display. She met one of the Sprint Experience staff, and they had a long conversation about racing. Staying in touch with each other after the event, Wright was told that they were interviewing for the Miss Sprint Cup team, and she wasted no time in throwing her name into the hat. Amanda drove 15 hours for her interview in North Carolina.

“My mom got me hooked on the sport back in 1995 when fellow ‘Mainer’ Ricky Craven started in the Cup series, and I have followed it ever since,” Amanda said. “Growing up as a big fan of NASCAR, I always wanted to be involved in the sport.”

A 2003 graduate of York High School (York, Maine), Wright had been attending the University of New Hampshire where she was majoring in Business Administration. While working as Miss Sprint Cup, she will continue her education and finish her degree online.

“Being from a small town like York (Maine), I never really thought I’d have the opportunity, so this has literally been a life-changing experience for me,” Wright said.

“I moved to North Carolina, and it was a little scary to leave my family and friends, but I’m really looking forward to traveling to the different tracks and experiencing everything that goes along with this job. I’ll get to meet a lot of fans and be their ‘friend on the inside,’ which is awesome. It’s a dream job, for sure. I kind of miss New England and it will always be my home, but I’ll get to catch up with everyone at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway later this year.”

Wright joins Monica Palumbo of Charlotte, N.C., returning for a third season, and fellow newcomer Paige Duke of Lancaster, S.C. on the Miss Sprint Cup team.

Highly visible personalities at every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event, the Miss Sprint Cup representatives appear throughout the weekend at the Sprint Experience mobile display, where they greet fans and interviews drivers, celebrities and other NASCAR personalities. They can also be found interacting with race-day attendees on pit road tours, in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage, and at driver introductions.

With the rise in the program’s popularity, Miss Sprint Cup now regularly receives requests from tracks, teams, charitable organizations and even other NASCAR sponsors to appear at various events. The increased time demands, both at and away from the track, spurred the decision to expand the program to include a third Miss Sprint Cup for 2010. Amanda and one of the other Miss Sprint Cup representatives will appear at the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 on June 27 and the SYLVANIA 300 on September 19 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
