Madhouse TV Star to Compete in Thompson’s Icebreaker

Thompson, CT – Burt Myers, one of the featured racers on the History Channel’s hit TV show Madhouse, will compete in the Icebreaker at Thompson International Speedway. The Walnut Cove, North Carolina resident will be making his first trip into New England’s Modified country as a competitor the weekend of April 10th and 11th.

“I’ve always heard about what a great place Thompson is but have never been able to fit it into my schedule. This year, the Icebreaker comes on an open date for us, so I’m really looking forward to racing there. As long as we don’t have a disaster in the race at South Boston, VA on April 3rd, we’ll be at Thompson,” said Myers.

This will mark the first time in his long and successful career that he has competed against the drivers in the Whelen Modified Tour on their turf. “We have run against many of the northern drivers in combination races at Martinsville, Bristol and at the North-South Shootout. But, this will be the first time to travel north to compete directly with those guys. I love racing with the guys from up north and am excited about going to Thompson.”

The TV show Madhouse has put Myers into the national racing spotlight. When asked about the television exposure, he said that the show had generated a lot of reaction from Modified fans all across the country. “It’s overwhelming how many people from all over the country have voiced opinions. I’ve also received inquiries from New England race fans asking if I was going to race the Icebreaker. If I have a weekend available, I try to book a race somewhere,” Myers concluded.

Myers began his driving career in a four cylinder division in 1994 and a year later was behind the wheel of a Modified race car. His racing is centered on North Carolina’s Bowman Gray Stadium. He also competes on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Myers has a 16-race schedule at Bowman Gray, all of the Southern Modified Tour events and anything else he can fit into his schedule. He hopes his schedule will allow him to return to Thompson in August and again for the track’s October World Series event.

He will face stiff competition from the many veteran NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour drivers who call Thompson home. The historic Thompson oval has played host to more WMT events than any other race track. The first of three WMT races at Thompson in 2010 will be the Icebreaker. Drivers will qualify their cars during time trails on Saturday, April 10th and compete in a 150-lap season opener on Sunday, April 11th. The very best of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be on hand to open a brand new racing season when the green flag drops at Thompson.
