Modified Tour Tops Icebreaker Lineup

Thompson, CT – The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour opens its 2010 season at the Thompson International Speedway on Icebreaker weekend. The traditional Icebreaker race program is scheduled for Saturday, April 10th and Sunday, April 11th.

The Modified Tour was formed in 1985 and has run more of its races at Thompson than at any other NASCAR race track. Since its inception, the Modified Tour has made an amazing 109 appearances at the storied Connecticut race track and nearly every championship in that division has been determined at the season-ending World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson.

The 2010 edition of the Icebreaker will begin another exciting season for NASCAR’s oldest and fastest racing division. New England race fans, tired of the long winter season, are excited and ready for the roar of the engines and the heat of the competition. A brand new attraction this year will be the addition of the Madhouse TV star Burt Myers to the Modified Tour mix at Thompson. Myers will make his first ever trip to the northeast as a Modified Tour competitor and looks to take on the best of the Whelen Modified Tour in their 150-lap race.

Joining the Modified Tour at the Icebreaker will be Thompson’s “Super 6” NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. These fast and exciting divisions include the track’s Sunoco Modifieds, Super Late Models, Thompson Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks.

The Icebreaker is much more than a great race event. It’s a race party weekend as hundreds of fans converge upon the Thompson facility with their campers so that they can take in a full weekend of racing fun. Race fans are reunited with old pals and new friends are made every year at the Icebreaker. It’s a great race event, social gathering and party weekend that fans look forward to all winter long.

The two-day event will feature qualifying and practice on Saturday afternoon. The Sunoco Modifieds and Super Late Models will then race in the first of two events for these divisions during Icebreaker weekend. Sunday’s racing action begins at 12 Noon with the Whelen Modified Tour 150 slated for a 3:15 PM start.

The entire Icebreaker racing schedule is available on the Thompson web page. www.thompsonspeedway.com Fans are urged to avoid long ticket lines on race days by purchasing their tickets in advance. All major credit cards are accepted. Call 860-923-2280.
