Suisman Shapiro Little League Night returns to the Waterford Speedbowl
Waterford, CT — Spring has sprung and towns all across New London County have begun with their little league games throughout the week. America’s pastime will make its annual visit again this year to the Waterford Speedbowl as it turns from an action packed NASCAR track into field of dreams for its home run derby as part of the Suisman Shapiro Little League Night on Saturday May 8.
In an effort to make this event a real hit, the Waterford Speedbowl will be offering any and all youth in a little league jersey free admission into the grandstands for the entire night. New for 2010, any local little league team that wishes to participate in special events during the night are asked to contact the track at info@speedbowl.com or by calling 860.442.1585 by May 1st. Some of these special events include singing the National Anthem, giving the command to start engines, handing out trophies to the winners in victory lane, and more. Please see attached form.
Racing, like baseball, is a team sport, and team bonding is essential. For this event the Waterford Speedbowl will host a pizza party for teams and families of youth in little league jerseys. The pizza party will be offered to all little league players and families from 5:30pm to 6:15pm. Pizza, hot dogs and soft drinks will be available. Party admission is $6 in advance (notification and payment required by May 1st) or $8 without advanced notification. Space is limited, advanced notification is recommended (contact 860.442.1585 or info@speedbowl.com).
Returning this season will be the Beaver Bat Home Run Derby where 10 drivers, along with 10 randomly selected youth in a little league jersey, will form two teams that will battle it out for yearlong bragging rights as the best bowl sluggers. A home run derby with NASCAR racing is by far a home run among drivers, fans, and especially youth. The 10 selected youth will receive a custom bat from Beaver Bat’s. Race cars will also be on display along the midway for youth to get up close and take photos with the mighty machines, parents don’t forget to bring your camera.
