Dillon Moltz Set to Defend Title in 16th Annual Lincoln Technical Institute Late Model 100 at Stafford Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — The 2010 season has been a season to remember for Stafford Motor Speedway Late Model driver Dillon Moltz. Moltz was the winning driver in the Richard Petty Driving Experience in late April, earning him an ARCA ride in the July 31st Pennsylvania ARCA 125, which will be televised on SPEED. Moltz followed up his Richard Petty Driving Experience performance with a victory in the season opening Late Model event at Stafford Motor Speedway as part of the 39th Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler weekend, and he now has one of his favorite races to look forward to, the 16th Annual Lincoln Tech Late Model 100 this Friday night, May 7th. Moltz is the two-time defending champion of the event and is looking forward to continuing his winning ways in the extra distance event.

“We’ve been working on getting the car ready all week long and we’re really excited about our chances in the 100-lapper,” said Moltz. “We’ve always seemed to do pretty well in the extra distance races at Stafford. The longer races suit my driving style. It’s easier said than done for a racecar driver, but you have to pace yourself and take your time. You set the car up a little differently so that it comes in for you later on in the race rather than when you set it up to come in for a 30-lap race.”

Moltz had a streak of three consecutive extra distance wins at Stafford ended last September by Tom Butler, but he is confident that he can return to his winning ways.

“We had won 3 in a row, but Tommy Butler had a perfect car that night,” said Moltz. “I was doing what I always do in the longer races, but the car got loose on me when I tried to pass Tommy. He had a perfect car that night. We tried to go for the win instead of settling for second and we ended up finishing third, which we were happy to come away with a podium finish.”

Moltz finished second in the 2008 Late Model championship race at Stafford and last season he placed third behind Jim Peterson and Ryan Posocco. Moltz’s victory in the CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler has him sitting atop the points standings in 2010 heading into the Lincoln Tech Late Model 100.

“Realistically, its too early to start thinking about the championship, but it always there in the back of your mind,” said Moltz. “My philosophy is to try to be consistent every week and win races, that way the points will take care of themselves. I don’t look at the points, I leave that up to my father and my crew chief. If I start to look at the points standings, I start to points race rather than going for wins. As long as we can keep winning and be consistent every week, it will take care of itself.”

In addition to his Stafford Late Model duties, Moltz will have a busy summer as he will test several times in preparation for his ARCA debut at Pocono.

“We’ll be testing the ARCA car at several different tracks to get ready for Pocono,” said Moltz. “I’m very excited about this opportunity and I can’t wait for the race.” There also may be more ARCA races in Moltz’s future. “There is a possibility that we might do some more races this year, but we have to have a good finish first at Pocono, and my focus right now is on the race at Pocono and doing well there,” said Moltz.

Tickets for the 16th Annual Lincoln Tech Late Model 100 are priced at $18.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
