Monadnock Next For NEMA

Brockton, MA – The Northeastern Midget Association returns to action after a lengthy layoff Saturday night, May 29 at Monadnock Speedway. The tricky quarter mile is one of the biggest challenges on NEMA’s 2010 agenda.

The NEMA Lites will be part of the action as well.

“It has been a place where the veterans tend to be the favorites,” says Greg Stoehr, the Monadnock win leader among current drivers with three. “You are up on the wheel all the time there.”

Lap times in the mid to high 11 seconds bracket are needed to be competitive.

Chris Leonard (Leonard #2), the surprise winner at Waterford back on March 28, takes the point lead into the scheduled 25 lap feature.

“It’s been a while so anything can happen,” says NEMA President Mike Scrivani Jr. “Everybody is anxious to go racing. This could be a year of surprises. “

Russ Stoehr (Dumo’s Desire #45) and defending champion Randy Cabral (Bertrand #47) are the only other Monadnock winners among NEMA’s active drivers.

The Stoehr brothers, along with Adam Cantor (Cantor #7ny) have hopes of ending the championship streaks of Cabral and [owner]Tim Bertrand at two. A Honda powers the Bertrand machine.

Among the other contenders are Erica Santos (Breault #44), Jim Miller (Miller #3m), John Zych Jr. (Zych #9), Chris DeRitis (DeRitis/Cicconi #75), rookie of the year candidate Jesse State (Power Point #99), Paul Scally (Scally #30), Lee Bundy (Bundy #2), and Wil and Aaron Wall, the latter in the Wall Motorsport #5 and #55 entries.

Waterford winner Anthony Nocella, in Matt Seymour’s #29, continues to be the target for a NEMA field that includes newcomer Bethany Viets and division veterans Todd Bertrand, Russ Wood Jr., Eric Cabral and Kevin Park.

P.J. Stergois won both NEMA Lites races at Monadnock last year.
