Ryan Preece Ready to Contend for Victory in Stafford’s 20th annual TSI Harley-Davidson 125 on May 28th
Stafford Springs, CT — With the 20th Annual TSI Harley-Davidson 125 only a week away at Stafford Motor Speedway, Ryan Preece looks to rebound from his crash at the CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler and come away with his second career Whelen Modified Tour victory at the Connecticut half-mile. Preece and his #3 Boehler Racing team sponsored by Reynolds Auto Wrecking brought their newer car to Stafford for the Sizzler, but the team is bringing back their older car for the TSI Harley-Davidson 125, which Preece thinks will give them an advantage.
“We ran our new car for the first two races of the year, but we’re going to bring the older car back to Stafford,” said Preece. “With the newer car, we’re still working on some things with the setup, but the old car we have it down. We won the August race last year at Stafford with the older car, so we’re looking forward to running the older car for the first time this year.”
Since the Spring Sizzler ended, Preece has been moonlighting in Stafford’s SK Modified® division, which he says will help his preparation for the upcoming TSI Harley-Davidson 125.
“Any time you can get more laps around a track it helps,” said Preece. “I’ve had a lot of fun working with Mike Paquette and Bob Hitchcock and it’s been a blast racing with the SK guys. This SK car is the closest thing I’ve ever driven to a bullet. It has great power and it really rotates through the corners. I found a bump in turn 3 that gets your car loose if you hit it, so I’ll have to remember to avoid that during the tour race next Friday night.
Preece and his SK Modified® team are searching for sponsors to help expand their 2010 schedule at SMS.
“Right now, it’s a week to week thing,” said Preece. “We’re definitely racing [May 21st] and the 100 and 150-lap shows, but for right now we’re going to see what happens race to race and how the car is after the race unless we can find a sponsor to help us out.”
Preece has 1 career Whelen Modified Tour victory and 2 career pole positions at Stafford, and with the return of the “Old Blue” to the track, Preece is looking forward to his chances at winning the TSI Harley Davidson 125.
“Any time we come to Stafford, we feel like the 3 car is going to be fast and one of the cars to beat,” said Preece. “Just like Teddy [Christopher] at Stafford; he is always strong and I’m sure that he is going to be one of the cars that we will have to pass or hold off to be in victory lane. We feel like we have a car that is capable of winning the race and we’re looking forward to coming back to Stafford.”
