Speedbowl Celebrates Memorial Day Weekend with four events
Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl is ready for a blockbuster Memorial Day celebration, hosting four events in five days over the coming week. It all starts with ‘Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday’ on May 26 and continues with a special edition of ‘The Show and Go at the ‘Bowl’ on Friday, May 28. It wraps up with back-to-back evenings of extremes on Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and 30. Extreme speed will be on display Saturday when the ISMA Supermodifieds return for their first New England appearance of 2010. Sunday evening’s Memorial Day Madness showcases all the thrills and spills any family needs to close out their holiday weekend with a smash. Affordable family fun is a common theme during the week, as always with the ‘Bowl.
‘Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday’ action has already heated up this year, providing fans with the affordable racing entertainment the night has become known for. Fifteen year old Anthony Flannery is undefeated in Legends Cars racing on Wednesdays and is the current championship point leader. The Super X-Car and X-Car divisions have staged great battles in their early season events, often featuring late race lead changes and exciting two and three wide racing. The action begins at 7:00pm on May 26, with gates opening at 5:30pm. Adult admission is just $7 with all youth 14 and under absolutely free to make for the most affordable family entertainment outing the region has to offer.
Nearly 150 competitors have taken to the track for the ‘Show and Go at the ‘Bowl’over the first few Friday nights in May for the brand new event. One hundred foot drag race competitions feature everything from street rods, hot rods, muscle cars, street cars and trucks to everything in between. May 28 is ‘60’s night and the drag racing will include a Street Rod shootout. Test and tune for the drags begins at 5:30pm with the elimination rounds following. Grandstands admission is free for all ages, and a car cruise on the Speedbowl midway accompanies the drag racing.
On Saturday the Speedbowl welcomes the ISMA Supermodifieds, some of the fastest short track racecars built. They’ll put on an electrifying 50-lap race with lap speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour at the three-eighths mile shoreline oval. The 800-horsepower, winged wonders were made to go fast and turn left. ISMA events at the ‘Bowl are always a must see event. The Speedbowl’s own NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions accompany the Supermodifieds. Spectator gates open at 3:00pm, with qualifying action getting underway at 5:00pm. An ISMA autograph session will follow qualifying and precede main events which begin at 7:00pm. Adult grandstands admission is $32.00 with youth age 6 through 14 admitted for $10.00. Age 5 and under are free.

The weekend concludes with 97.7 WCTY Memorial Day Madness, a Family Fun show tradition at the ‘Bowl. Four and eight cylinder demolition derbies offer non-stop pounding enjoyed by fans of all ages, plus a car ski race and speedway bowling are in store for those in attendance. To top it all off, the wild Speedbowl trailer race will take to the track, turning the Speedbowl into a scrap metal yard. The gates open at 5:30pm and the smashing gets underway at 7:00pm. Courtesy of WCTY, all EMS workers will be treated to a complimentary grandstands admission ticket by presenting their EMS identification at the Speedbowl Box Office. Adults are $15.00, youth 6 through 14 just $5.00 and age 5 and under are free on Sunday.
