Chouinard makes it back to back. Westgate, Lascoula and Hutchins also victors
Seekonk, MA — Bill Chouinard of Swansea made it two in a row in the Pure Stock main event on Friday night. Having to start last in the feature, by virtue of his previous weeks win, Bill was able to move through the 27 car field and take over the top spot by lap 20 in the 25 lap feature.
John Robidoux was the first to set the pace, jumping out from his pole starting position. Pawtucket’s Amy Arsenault jumped into second, with Harold Pratt taking over third in the early laps. By the time the first caution came out on lap 5, Chouinard had already moved past 18 cars, into ninth.
By lap 8, Pratt moved past Arsenault, and the Plymouth native started to put pressure on Robidoux. The pair raced wheel to wheel for several laps. Pratt took over on lap 17, just before the second caution came out for Mark Miranda, who spun in turn 3. Jamie Salley, who started twelfth, had taken over second, with Chouinard, opening day winner Nick Uhrig, and Ed Flanagan Jr rounding out the top five.
Chouinard used the outside line and took over the lead on lap 21, and started to put a little breathing room between him and the rest of the field. But over the final five laps, Uhrig hunted him down and gave him heavy pressure over the last couple of laps, Chouinard held on for his second win in a row, while Uhrig came out second. Randy Moretti made an end of the race charge and took over the third position on the final lap, with Flanagan and Mark Boisvert rounding out the top five.
In the 15 lap Sport4 feature, Dave Westgate Jr picked up his first career win at the 1/3mile oval. On the opening laps, Steven Heath of Plympton jumped out and set the pace. Je led until four, when Westgate took over. Over the final laps, the East Taunton native opened up a sizeable lead, and never looked back. Opening night winner, ken Silva worked himself into second, but was unable to make a charge at the lead. Ed Gould finished third, with Heat and Frank Alteri rounding out the top five.
Dave Hutchens Jr picked up his second win of the young season in the Seekonk Youth Racing Association 750 feature, but it was only after apparent winner Bob Perry was disqualified in post race tech inspection. Perry took over the lead from Adam Swift on lap two, and held off the challenges of Hutchens for the final 20 laps. The only caution of the event was on lap five, when Waterford CT’s Kaitlyn Donovan spun her machine in turn 4.
Perry and Hutchens pulled away from the rest of the pack, but the battle behind them continued until they crossed the finish line. Ashley Kuhn, Nate Bubello and Donovan swapped positions four through six back and forth while Swift raced by himself in third. At the end, Donovan used the outside lane and took over fourth, with Kuhn rounding out the top five. Bubello moved into the top five after the finish was adjusted.
The SYRA 600 main started off as a rough one, with four cautions in the first four laps of competition. The worst one coming on lap three, when Jason Enos II ended up rolling onto his roof in turn two. After a quick visit with the safety team, he hopped back into his mount and continued.
Once the drivers got some rhythm going, Nick Lascoula was the young one setting the pace. For a few laps, Brandon Dion was holding on, but he fell back several lengths as the laps wound down. Tylar Nailor finished third, with Enos working his way back into fourth. Willy Sanchez rounded out the top five.
