Landry Wins PASS Sportsman; Family Feud: Oliveira Breaks Through with PASS Mod Win

Naples, ME — Sunday’s racing card at Unity (ME) Raceway featured all three of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North touring divisions and some great racing broke out in both the Sportsman and Mod features, punctuated by some serious bouts of yellow fever.

Mike Landry claimed his first feature win of the season, passing “Cousin Dan” McKeage on the 75 lap feature’s final restart for the race lead. Shane Tatro raced home in third; Scott Dorr and Craig Smith finish fourth and fifth.

Brad Bellows looked like he might go home with the winner’s trophy early on. He and Landry battled for the lead for the first forty laps until Bellow’s ride expired and retired on lap 41. Meanwhile Dan McKeage was working his way through the field, inheriting second when Bellows made his exit. For the final 35 laps it was a battle up front with Landry, McKeage and Shane Tatro on the charge. Six cautions marred the final 18 laps as the top two waged a see-saw battle for the win. Landry’s win in the final restart battle sealed the victory for the newlywed racer from Oakland ME. Landry was two for two with a win in his heat race; Bellows was triumphant in his heat race.

Leo Oliveira decided to race with PASS on a regular basis for 2010 and the move paid off with his first touring series win in the PASS Mods. The Raynham Massachusetts racer dominated, taking the lead early on and staying there despite challenges Kevin Douglas early on and Scott McDaniel late.

Alan Wilson jumped out to an early lead in the 40 lap nightcap but Oliveira quickly put his ride on the point. There was plenty of action throughout the field as the Mod boys, like their Sportsman counterparts, had a tough time stringing together a long green flag run. Plenty of spins, a car or two in Unity Raceway’s fabled sand banks, and a wild checkered flag skirmish that jumbled the finishing order kept the action coming.

Bill Dixon came back from an early race spin to finish third behind Oliveira and McDaniel; Andy Shaw survived a trip off of turn one to finish fourth and Greg Ellis brought his ride home fifth.

Rich Ferreira and Kevin Douglas each won a qualifying heat.

The PASS Mods will be back on track Saturday July 3rd, part of a spectacular fourth of July celebration planned for Canaan (NH) Fair Speedway. The show will include Monster Trucks, 150 laps for the PASS Super Late Models, fireworks and much more. Canaan goes green at 5:00 Saturday July 3rd.

The PASS Sportsman will make their first Lee (NH) USA Speedway appearance in a special Tuesday night July 13 show that will include the PASS Super Late Models and Mods.

You’ll find the tracks at www.canaanpeedways.com and www.leeusaspeedway.com.
