Thompson Speedway Offering Great Holiday Weekend Entertainment
Thompson, CT Two very special events make up the 4th of July holiday weekend at the Thompson International Speedway. Thursday night, July 1st, will kick off the holiday celebration when Thompson plays host to the Tour-Type Modifieds, NEMA Midgets and five of its own NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. Two days later, the Thompson Speedway switches gears and becomes a haven for Monster Truck fans.
The Thursday night, Tour-Type Modified event, will headline a seven division race program that’s bound to be the talk of the racing community. The 40-lap, Tour-Type Modified feature event will be an all out, no holds bared, race for the most popular type of race car in all of New England. This will be the second of four such races at Thompson this year with round one going to Ronnie Silk. The Tour-Type Modifieds will be joined by the mighty Midgets of NEMA and five of Thompson’s weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions in creating a night filled with exciting racing action.
The Midgets will be making the first of two appearances this year at Thompson. These cars have a tradition at Thompson that dates back to the very early days of the track. Thompson is the fastest speedway on which the Midgets compete and these high speed, open wheel race cars are edge-of-the-seat excitement for race fans.
Saturday’s Monster Thrash Fest will bring seven of the nation’s best known Monster Trucks to Thompson where they will jump, spin, fly through the air and destroy virtually anything in their paths. The Monster Trucks and their drivers will be available to meet and greet fans during a ‘pit party’ on the front stretch of the famed speedway. Fans will have the opportunity to see these huge mechanical marvels up close, take pictures and get autographs from the drivers.
Monster Thrash Fest will also feature FMX riders in a thrilling motorcycle thrill show with riders doing amazing ramp-to-ramp jumps, wheelies and much more. The show will also feature the Kamikaze and Psycho jet four wheelers.
Thursday’s race program starts at 6 PM. The Saturday Pit Party begins at 5:15 PM with the Monster Thrash Fest starting at 7 PM. Complete schedules of both events are available on the Thompson web site. www.thompsonspeedway.com
