Rob Summers Teaming with Holbrook Racing for CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Event at Stafford Motor Speedway
Stafford Springs, CT — The stars and cars of the ISMA Supermodified division return to Stafford Motor Speedway on Tuesday, July 6th for the 7th
Annual CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday. Chris Perley has been the dominant driver at Stafford, winning 4 of the 6 CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday events, but one driver who will look to end Perley’s dominance in the 50-lap ISMA Supermodified event will be Rob Summers.
Summers was the winner of the 2007 CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday event and he comes to Stafford this season driving for owner Jeff Holbrook as a teammate to Russ Wood, the 2005 CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday winner. In the 6 previous CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday events, Summers and Wood are the only other drivers to win at Stafford besides Perley and Summers likes his chances of having another successful night at Stafford.
“We have as good a shot as any of the top-5 guys in the division,” said Summers. “The Holbrook team is an awesome team and they have great cars. I drove their car at Waterford and it was like driving a Cadillac. Russ Wood has been racing with Jeff Holbrook for so long now, they have great notes to work with and they’re one of the best teams out there.”
Summers knows how to get around the Stafford half-mile layout quite well. In his career, he has won 4 Whelen Modified Tour Pole Positions at Stafford along with winning the 2007 CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday ISMA Supermodified feature event and the 2008 SK Modified® feature at the CARQEUST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler. But with all his Stafford success, Summers doesn’t think that will automatically translate into a good run for the ISMA Supermodified portion of CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday.
“There’s guys in the ISMA Supermodified division like Chris Perley, Dave Shullick, Mike Lichty, and my teammate Russ Wood, they’re good everywhere they go, so I don’t know how much of an advantage I’ll have,” said Summers.
“I think the race will come down to if we can hit the setup and if I hit my marks. If we can do that, I think we can have a real good night.”
Joining the ISMA Supermodifieds on the CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday card will be the NEMA Midgets and the Pro-4 Modifieds. Nokie Fornoro is the defending NEMA Midget feature winner and Norm Wrenn is the defending champion of the Pro-4 Modified feature.
The ISMA Supermodified feature will be 50-laps, the NEMA Midget feature will be 30-laps, and the Pro-4 Modified feature will be 25-laps. Spectator gates open at 4:15pm, qualifying races begin at 5:45pm, and feature events begin at 7:30pm.
