Series Title Run Turns into Four Way Battle for Waterford Saturday
Waterford, CT. – With only five races remaining on the 2010 schedule, the Modified Racing Series, sponsored by Bob Valenti AutoMall.com, returns to the Waterford, CT., Speedbowl Saturday night, September 4, with one of the hottest battles for the series championship in the seven year existence of the tour.
Engine issues for the point leader, an off night for the series defending champion, a dedicated car-owner and hard working pit crew, a well deserved win fought by one of the series young stars, last week at Thompson, CT., has created a log jam at the top of the standings.
Dwight Jarvis, Ascutney, VT., suffered engine problems during practice at Thompson forcing the point leader and former series champion out of the event. Jon McKennedy, East Chelmsford, MA., second in the standings, was off the mark and involved in a late race incident resulting in a 24th place finish, leaving him in a first place tie with Les Hinckley, Windsor Locks, CT.
Hinckley entered the program 39 points behind Jarvis, but thanks to the hard work and commitment by his car owner Chuck Montville and crew, Hinckley was race ready after a hard practice session crash. In the feature race, Hinckley quietly made his way to a top five finish after starting deep in the field, and ended up in a tie with McKennedy at the top of the standings.
The drama does not stop there. Rowan Pennink, Huntingtdon Valley, PA., is now only 33 points out of first place, thanks to his win at Thompson; his second series win in 2010.
“Thunder on the Sound” will feature 100 laps of green flag racing for the MRS.
In addition to the top point men, additional entries expected include Doug Coby, Milford, CT., Keith Rocco, Wallingford, CT., Steven Masse, Bellingham, MA., 2008 champion, Chris Pasteryak, Lisbon, CT., Kenny Barry, Preston, CT., Todd Annarummo, Swansea, MA., rookie drivers, Joey Jarvis, Ascutney, Geoff Gernhard, Salem, CT., Jack Bateman, Canaan, NH., and Jeff Malave, Manchester, CT.
The holiday weekend special begins at 4:45 PM. Additional information at www.speedbowl.com.
