Seekonk DAV Race Launches Modified Racing Series Title Chase

Seekonk, MA — Following a three week break in the schedule, the Modified Racing Series, sponsored by Bob Valenti AutoMall.Com, returns to action October 9, & 10, when the famed Seekonk, Speedway, Seekonk, MA., features it’s annual two-day D.Anthony Venditti Fall Classic. Again this year, the Seekonk event kicks off the final three races of the season with a hotly contested battle-taking place for the 2010 series championship. The chase to the title will also include races at Twin State Speedway, Claremont, NH., and Lee USA Speedway, Lee, NH., later this month.

Defending series champion, Jon McKennedy, of Chelmsford, MA, a winner at Seekonk last year, brings a brand new racecar into the mix and a 17-point lead over 2006 series champion, Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, Vermont. Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA., is 33 points back, in third, with Windsor Locks, CT., veteran Les Hinckley, currently fourth, 42 points out of first place.

The car owners points battle is also competitive with veteran owner Gary Casella, of Saugus, MA., the head of Roscoe Racing (#25) holding a slim 9 point lead over McKennedy, owner of the (# 73) race team. CMR car owner Chuck Montville (#06) and Bonnie Jarvis, owner of Jarvis Motorsports, (# 28) are tied for third, 51 points from the top spot.

The October event has traditionally been a competitive race program with six different winners in the six races held to date. Hinckley took the inaugural MRS event in 2004, with Andy Seuss, Hampstead, NH., taking down the honors in 2005.

Local favorite Dave Berghman, of Seekonk, captured the victory in 2006 with another fan favorite, the popular, Vinnie Annarummo, Swansea, MA., nabbing the win in 2007.

Chris Pasteryak, Lisbon, CT., on his way to the series championship scored the 2008 win while NASCAR legend Mike Stefanik, of Coventry, R.I., won his first ever modified race at Seekonk and his first MRS victory in 2009.

Drivers from throughout the northeast are expected to compete in the Columbus Holiday weekend event. Qualifying races will be contested on Saturday October 9 at 1:30 PM with the 100-lap MRS race scheduled, Sunday, Oct 10. Feature races begin at 1:00 PM.
