Butcher Top Whelen Southern Mod Rookie
Daytona Beach, FL — NASCAR announced today that Greg Butcher has earned 2010 Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
Butcher, from Mockville, N.C., finished the season with four top-15 finishes highlighted. His best finish was at Bristol Motor Speedway in August, where he was the 12th-place Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver in the combination race with the Whelen Modified Tour.
Butcher finished 13th in the season standings behind the wheel of the No. 0 Butcher Racing Chevrolet, a team owned by Frank Edwards.
In five of the 10 races, Butcher earned the Sunoco Rookie of the Race Award.
Butcher finished three points ahead of Mike Norman in the final Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings. Norman was 14th in the overall season points with a pair of 14th-place finishes.
Butcher will be recognized for his accomplishments as part of the festivities surrounding the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala on Dec. 11 at the Charlotte Convention Center’s Crown Ballroom in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
