Seekonk Speedway Set to Close Out their 65th Season with Annual Awards banquet

Seekonk, MA — On Saturday, January 15th, Seekonk Speedway will honor their 2010 Champions with their annual Dinner and Awards banquet. Once again, the annual celebration will be the Venus De Milo restaurant and banquet hall in Swansea, MA. In addition to the champions, the top ten in each division and the weekly winners will be recognized in front of all their peers.

Once again, Flyin’ Fred Astle will be the man of the hour, as he will celebrate his fifth Pro Stock Championship, his third driving for Ron Louro in the Wood Frame Structures Pro Stock. He becomes the second driver to win three Pro Stock titles in a row, matching Norm Holden, who performed that feat in 1983-1985. He also matched Vinnie Annarummo in becoming the second driver to win 5 Pro Stock titles.

Ryan Vanasse cruised to his second consecutive Late Model title, dominating the division once again. The Team V Transportation Monte Carlo set the standard over some of the toughest Late Model competition in New England.

Steve Axon picked up his first title in the Street Stocks, holding off several competitors in a race that went down to the final laps of the season.

Things were Radical in the Sport Trucks, as Rick Martin won his first Truck title, after missing out in 2009 by a mere 2 points. This is Rick’s fifth championship overall, as he has picked up 4 in the Pro Stock ranks. While Rick won the drivers title, Jeff Mercure had his Chevy pick up the owners portion of the title. His driver, Dylan Estrella missed one week of action, when Dick Houlihan substituted, helping the cause.

Also being honored will be the Fast Friday Champions. Nick Uhrig went into the final night of Fast Friday action, having already clinched the Pure Stock title. Ken Silva will become the first Champion of the Sport4 class, which is celebrating their second season. Dave Hutchens Jr made a successful move into the S.Y.R.A. 750 class, picking up the title while Nick Lascoula moved into the title for the 600 class.

Two additional awards will also be handed out. The Anthony Francis Venditti award will be handed out to one individual who has shown their dedication to Seekonk Speedway. The D, Anthony Venditti award will also be awarded to someone who has dedicated themselves to short track racing in New England.

Cocktail hour starts at 6, while dinner will be served at 7. Awards will be handed out following dinner, with dancing ending the night.
