CARQUEST Champions for Charities Driver Spotlight: Todd Szegedy

Stafford Springs, CT — As the excitement builds for the June 28th CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions for Charities event, Stafford Speedway has been busy coordinating charities and the drivers that will represent them. The field for the CARQUEST Champions for Charities race is impressive, as it represents 42 championships among 12 drivers and 5 different open wheel divisions. Todd Szegedy, the 2003 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion, will be racing to help support The Foundation For Life.

The Foundation For Life is an organization which provides funding in Connecticut for underprivileged children. Their motto is to make children’s dreams come true by providing scholarships, bikes, school clothes and supplies, various playgrounds in CT, and provide volunteers to teach Junior Achievement in CT elementary schools. They have also assisted in the ABC Extreme Makeover Home Edition in Bridgeport, CT by paying off the owner’s mortgage. Since 2006, the Foundation for Life has distributed over $350,000 to organizations in Connecticut who are working to better the lives of those in need throughout the community.

“The Foundation for Life is a great organization which gives back to communities who are in need of giving throughout the state of Connecticut,” said Szegedy. “Mike and I are extremely proud to represent the Foundation For Life and we hope to raise a lot of money for them.”

Szegedy is the 2003 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion and he also holds the distinction of being the only SK Modified® driver to win the SK Modified® feature event after winning the Coors Light 21 Means 21 feature and transferring into the main feature. Szegedy was also part of one of the more memorable Stafford moments when he barrel rolled his SK Modified® during the Spring Sizzler feature event in 2000. Szegedy has never driven a Wild Thing Kart and has never raced around the Stafford Mini-Mile, but he is looking forward to the race.

“I’ve never driven these type of go karts before, but I do have WKA and IKS kart experience,” said Szegedy. “I’m going to have to learn how to drive a go kart all over again and the mini-mile will be a different challenge, but it will be fun to race against the drivers that I’ll be racing against.”

The starting lineups for the CARQUEST Champions For Charities qualifying races will be determined by how much money each driver raises for their selected charity. The starting grid will be set with the drivers who have raised the most money starting up front. Fans are encouraged to get involved in the event by donating to their favorite driver or favorite charity. To make a donation to the The Foundation For Life on behalf of Todd Szegedy, and for more information on the event, please refer to the CARQUEST Champions for Charities donation page located at www.staffordspeedway.com.
