Bobby Santos, III Currently Holds the Lead in the Race for Pole Position in CARQUEST Champions for Charities Event at SMS

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Speedway’s CARQUEST Champions For Charities event, schedule for Tuesday, June 28, has an impressive driver lineup with over 50 open wheel championships represented among the 14 drivers that will participate in the 20-lap race utilizing Senior Outlaw Wild Thing Karts. Before the champions take to Stafford’s mini-mile for the race, they must first qualify in a heat race.

The starting lineups for the heat races will be determined by how much money each driver has raised for their respective charity. The driver with the most money raised will start on pole position, the driver who has raised the second highest dollar amount for their charity will start on the outside pole, and so on through the 14 driver field.

Currently holding the lead for the pole position is defending Whelen Modified Tour champion Bobby Santos, III, who has so far raised $830 for the USAC Benevolent Fund to benefit Eric Saunders. Santos recently took part in the 14th Annual Fun at Fastimes 3-hour endurance Go-Kart event, which helped him raise $630 towards his CARQUEST Champions For Charities efforts.

The fight for the outside pole is currently a tie between Chris Perley and Keith Rocco, who have each raised $250 thusfar. Perley, the 6-time ISMA Supermodified champion, is racing for the Arthritis Walk to Benefit Katie Blouin, while Rocco, the 2010 Whelen All-American Series National Champion and 2-time Stafford SK Modified® champion, is racing for the Connecticut Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ever the racer, Rocco is planning to be very coy about his donation total and will keep his rival drivers guessing about how much money he has raised for a preferred starting position right up until it is time to reveal the totals and earn a starting position.

“We’re stockpiling our donations and I’m not going to show all my cards until the very end,” said Rocco.

The driver roster page also has up to date dollar totals so that fans can see where their favorite driver stacks up in the race to raise the most money and start on the pole position.
