Final Open Practice Session Set for Thursday at Thompson
Thompson, CT — The final open practice session before weekly racing begins will be held this Thursday between the hours of 4 PM and 8 PM at the Thompson International Speedway. This four hour session will afford race teams the opportunity to fine tune their race cars one week before the track begins its popular Thursday Night Thompson Thunder (TNTT) races on May 12th.
The open practice session is not only available to race teams that will be competing at Thompson during the 2011 season, but will be open to any safe race car regardless of its division or age. Thompson will play host to a tremendous variety of racers this season and all are welcome. Any and all Modifieds, Super Modifieds, Midgets, Mini Stocks and all forms of Late Model type race cars will be given track time to make their cars race ready. Vintage race cars, which will once again have their day this summer at Thompson, are also welcome.
This open practice session is also a great opportunity for new drives to gain valuable seat time. Once the weekly racing programs get started, on-track practice time is limited. Therefore, an open practice session is a unique chance for new drivers to obtain some very valuable experience.
Opening night for TNTT, Thursday, May 12th, will also be the track’s annual Thompson Night. The speedway offers free grandstand admission to Thompson residents who simply present positive I.D., resident tax or utility bills showing their Thompson address. It’s the track’s way of saying thank you for the support given by local residents.
TNTT will once again feature six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions every week through mid September. In addition, a host of special events are part of the Thompson race schedule. These special events include the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, The Valenti Modified Racing Series, Tour-Type Modifieds and Pro All Star race cars. Extra distance races for Thompson’s own “Super 6” divisions are also a big part of the 2011 schedule of events. In addition, Thompson’s annual Eve of Destruction will be held on Sunday, May 29th.
Something brand new this year will be the Tuesday night Hole Shot drags. These events will be held weekly beginning May 10th. General admission will be just $6.00. Pit/Infield passes will be just $10.00 and a $30.00 car entry will be charged for competitors.
Complete details on these events and much more are available on the Thompson web site. Fans are urged to visit www.thompsonspeedway.com for the latest and most accurate track information. Fans can also follow Thompson on Facebook and Twitter.
