Formula Hybrid Competition Begins at NHMS

Loudon, NH — With the national gas prices averaging $3.93 per gallon, 33 college-level teams are offering solutions at New Hampshire Motor Speedway during the fifth annual Formula Hybrid Competition, today through Wednesday.

Founded by the Thayer School of Engineering, the Formula Hybrid Competition is a design and engineering challenge for undergraduate and graduate university students. Participants must tackle the difficult task of designing, building, and competing in an open-wheel, single-seat, plug-in hybrid racecar.

Teams representing six different countries including: Sweden, Russia, Canada, Italy, United States and India have spent hundreds of hours throughout the year, preparing these high-performance hybrid and electric race cars that will zoom around “The Magic Mile.”

Officials from Formula Hybrid have announced the return of a school day on Monday, today, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. School day is the perfect opportunity for middle and high school students to visit the Formula Hybrid competition and see the numerous creative and technical challenges college engineering students take on.

“Because one of the primary goals of the Formula Hybrid Competition is education, the return of our ‘school day’ fits well into the Formula Hybrid event,” said Doug Fraser, director of competition.
