Tour-Type Modifieds Top the Billing at Thompson this Week
Thompson, CT — The first of three Tour-Type Modified races will be held this Thursday, June 2nd, at the Thompson International Speedway. The Tour-Type Modifieds were a big hit with Thompson fans last year and are expected to provide exciting, high-speed, wheel-to-wheel competition once again.
Many of the best Modified drivers in the northeast are expected to be on hand for this race. Qualifying will be done with heat races to determine the starting positions in the 40-lap feature event. This format for the Tour-Type Modifieds is reminiscent of the golden era of Modified racing. Both competitors and fans look forward to this extremely competitive style of racing for the most popular type of race cars in New England. The Tour-Type Modifieds will make their second appearance at Thompson on Thursday, July 21st along with the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) 100 lap special event.
With no pre-entry required, track officials can only look at the star-studded fields that made up the Tour-Type Modified races last year. Mike Stefanik, Ted Christopher, Ronnie Silk, Stephen Masse, Charlie Pasteryak, Ed Flemke, Jr , Tony Ferrante, Ryan Preece were among the many Modified stars that competed in these events in 2010.
Joining the Tour-Type Modifieds will be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Thompson Modifieds, Xtra/Mart Limited Sportsman and Monster Mini Stocks. Each of these divisions will also compete in both qualifying races and feature events.
The month of June will be packed with special events. June 9th will a big night for Thompson’s Super Late Models as it will be their turn at an extra distance, 50-lap main event. June 16th will mark the first time in 2011 that the Valenti Modified Racing Series will be at Thompson. A 75-lap feature race will be the highlight of their appearance. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the high-banked Thompson oval on Thursday, June 30th for a 150-lap spectacular.
