Shaw Makes It Two for Two at Canaan Fair Speedway
Canaan NH — Andy Shaw reclaimed the lead on the final restart of Saturday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Mod feature at New Hampshire’s Canaan Fair Speedway to earn his second win of 2011. Alan Wilson finished in the runner up spot with Leo Oliviera third, Scott McDaniel fourth and Bill Dixon fifth
Mark Lundblad Jr. and Shawn Austin brought the field to the green and Lundblad Jr. got the jump from the pole with Rich Ferreira racing up to second and Scott McDaniel third. Caution flew on lap four for a slowing Shawn Austin and when the green waved Ferreira got the best of Lundblad Jr. to take over the point. Alan Wilson followed Ferreira through with McDaniel third. Yellow flew on lap eight for a Billy Dixon spin, sending him to the tail of the lineup.
On the restart Ferreira kept the lead but Andy Shaw was on the move from seventh on the grid to third, just as another caution waved for Scott McDaniel’s ride off turn two.. Ferriera held the point on the restart with Wilson second and Shaw racing third. Up front Wilson was challenging for the lead with Shaw hot on his heels. The top trio separated themselves from the pack where Lundlbald Jr. and Dana Reed were slugging it out for fourth .
Alan Wilson found room on the bottom to make his move on Ferreira at lap 18, just as another caution flew for Charlie Small’s trip to the infield.
At the half way mark it was Wilson, Ferreira, Shaw, Lundblad Jr. and Reed up front. When the green waved Ferreira took a ride off the back stretch, bringing out the yellow once again. Ferreira returned at the tail end of the field.
On the restart Shaw captured the lead and the defending series Champion was off and running. Wilson tried every line to find a way around Shaw but at the lap 30 mark it didn’t look like he had anything for him.
But Mitch Miller went around on lap 32, setting up another chance for Wilson to take a shot at Shaw. Wilson got the job done on the outside and retook the lead but the caution flew when Dana Reed ‘s ride shut down and Shaw had another chance. This time he won the restart battle and at the checker Shaw and Wilson had duplicated their runs in the PASS Mod season opener, crossing the line first and second respectively.
Shawn Austin and Bill Dixon won the qualifying rounds.
