Racing Against Cancer™ just days away from stepping into new fundraising endeavor

Westbrook, CT — After 13 years of successful fundraising Racing Against Cancer™ (RAC) will walk into a new fundraising program, the Racing Against Cancer™ Track Walk program. The program’s events will take place at racetracks along the east coast from Maine to North Carolina during the 2011 racing season. The inaugural event will commence on Sunday June 19, 2011 at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT.

In addition to the RAC charitable event, Stafford Motor Speedway has opened its gates to multiple charities to generate funds for their particular cause this spring. The RAC Track Walk has been coined “A Prelude to the CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions For Charities.” The Racing Against Cancer™ Track Walk at Stafford Speedway will lead up to the all new Champions for Charities event, a new element of the popular 8th Annual CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday.

“The CARQUEST Champions For Charities event was not only designed to help worthy causes but to challenge the drivers, teams, and their charities of choice to get involved and raise funds for their causes while having fun at the same time,” said Stafford Motor Speedway Executive Vice President Lisa Arute. “Stafford Speedway is thrilled to be hosting one of the first Racing Against Cancer Track Walks.”

The special Champions for Charities Senior Outlaw Kart race will include 14 past champions from different racing backgrounds. The starting lineup will be determined by the amount of money each driver raises for their selected charity with the drivers raising the most money starting up front. All funds raised during the Racing Against Cancer Track Walk at Stafford Speedway will be credited to RAC Champions For Charities driver and 7-time ISMA Champion Russ Wood. Currently Russ Wood and Racing Against Cancer™ will be starting the event from the third position.

“Getting the new RAC Track Walk program off the ground has been a major task, one that has consumed much of my time over the past two years, I am looking forward to June 19th,” offered Scott Gregory, Co-Founder and Director of Operations of Racing Against Cancer™. “This is something new, something that hasn’t been attempted before by Racing Against Cancer™. In the past, we were very fortunate for many seasons; however with the decline of the economy over the past three years we lost the majority of our corporate support and the flow of donations that were possible because of that corporate support have been negatively impacted. RAC was faced with a difficult choice to make a year ago, either shutdown or move forward with something new. I feel we made the right choice.”

Participants are encouraged to secure lap sponsors as a way to raise the maximum amount of funds, which are credited to themselves as well as their teams overall fundraising amount. Awards will be presented to the team and individuals that raises the most funds (both youth and adults will be awarded) and also to the team that completes the most laps. All materials needed to solicit lap sponsorships are provided to the participants after signing up and also online at www.RacingAgainstCancer.org. All Stafford Track Walk teams are currently featured online with their own team page with team colors, number, and rosters. Also available online is the ability for non-participants to donate to their favorite team by using the donate button at the all new RACe Shop.

Team signups are available until the day of the event. All teams that have signed up participants by Monday June 13, 2011 will be featured on the Track Walk t-shirt. A $20 donation will reserve a special Track Walk kit on the day of the event, the $20 donation will also be credited to the participants fundraising efforts. Participants may start a new team, join an existing team, or just sign up as an individual online at www.RacingAgainstCancer.org. Day of Track Walk participants are welcome, however advance signup is highly recommended.
