ATQMRA returning to Seekonk Speedway for the first time in 16 years

Seekonk, MA — The last time the American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association competed at Seekonk Speedway, Bill Clinton was the President of the US, Jeff Gordon was winning his first Cup Series title, and Don Adams picked up the win in the 25 lap feature on July 29th, 1995.

On Saturday, June 18, the Three Quarter Midgets will return, with an opportunity to showcase their 51 year history to the fans at The Action Track of the East, in their only trip into New England this summer. While the TQ’s race indoors annually during the winter in RI, this is their only time competing in the open air.

Just a couple of weeks ago, several competitors ventured north to try out the 1/3 mile, and showed the fans in attendance just how quick the Badgers and Spitfires style, open cockpit, open wheel, winged racers are. They were turning laps in the high 11 second range, just about ½ second slower than the NEMA midgets that compete at the famed oval each year.

Reigning champion Ian Cumens will lead the charge into the Bay State, along with current point leader Robin Johnson. With the 16 year absence, there is no favorite coming into this event.

Along with the ATQMRA, a full slate of A.R.C. action will be on the schedule. The main gates open at 4pm, with the first green flag dropping at 6pm. For more information, check out our website at seekonkspeedway.com
