Avery Wins First New England Truck Series Race
Waterford, CT — Jonathon Avery (17) of Quakerhill CT, claimed his first win at his home track, Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday June 18 in the New England Truck Series feature event.
Seven divisions of racing was slated for the night, including a Scout Night Pit Party which multiple teams and race vehicles were displayed on the track front stretch for fans to enjoy up close with autographs and one on one time with racers. Starting lineup for the truck feature event on the pole, (38) Ronnie Oldham Jr. with (12) Derek Chriss on the outside started the 25 lap race to a smooth green flag start. Oldham took the lead and ran with it while (22) Chapman moved to second position with (3) Lindeman in tow. By lap eight (83) Perry moved up to fifth behind Chriss dropping (0) Payne to sixth position and (15) Bert Ouellette dropping to the back of the field with handling issues. Caution comes out on lap nine, contact between Chriss and Perry.
A second contact under caution sends Chriss to the pits and done for the night. Payne also goes to the pits but returns to racing at the end of the field. Lap ten, Oldham takes the lead again with Chapman at his door. By half way, (17) Avery has moved up to fourth position with Perry, and (21X) Jason Lafayette in pursuit. By lap 20, Coates moves up to the fifth position, (2) Duane Noll holding on to eighth with handing issues and Rookie (90) Nate Bubello holding ninth position. With two laps to go, Avery makes his move on Oldham and takes over the lead to bring home the checkered flag win.
Joining him on the podium were Oldham and Chapman. Lindeman and Coates rounded out the top five. The next race is back at Thunder on the Mountain Monadnock Speedway in NH Saturday July 9th.For more New England style truck racing news, go to www.newenglandtruckseries.com.
