NASCAR Welen Modified Tour Returns to Thompson on June 30th
Thompson, CT — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will make its second stop of the year at the Thompson International Speedway on Thursday, June 30th for the BUDWEISER 150. This special event marks the return of the WMT to Thompson for a June race.
The BUDWEISER “KING OF BEERS” 150 will be 5th race of the season for the most popular touring series in the northeast. NASCAR’s best open wheel race teams and drivers make up the impressive roster of competitors and all are expected to be in attendance for the Bud 150.
Current points leader, Rowan Pennink, will lead the star studded field of WMT drivers when they line up for the 150-lap race. Pennink will be joined by Bobby Santos, Ronnie Silk, Ted Christopher, Eric Beers, Mike Stefanik, Matt Hirschman and many more. Christopher won the season-opening Icebreaker at Thompson. Santos, the defending series champion, and Silk have also been victors on the Tour this season.
All WMT competitors will qualify for the Bud 150 through time trials that will get underway at 5:30 PM. Shortly after qualifying, a meet and greet/autograph session will be held so that fans can spend a few minutes with their favorite Tour drivers.
Fans will enjoy an entire evening of racing action with Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series “Super 6” divisions sharing the bill with the WMT. The exciting Sunoco Modifieds, Super Late Models, Thompson Modifieds, Late Models, XTRA/MART Limited Sportsman and Monster Mini Stocks will round out the night’s racing lineup.
Grandstands will open at 2 PM and the first of seven feature event races will start at 6:15. This Thursday, June 23rd, will mark the second try for the Super Late Models’ 40-lap extra distance race. This special event was rained out on June 9th and has been rescheduled for this week.
