Thompson Ready for Bud 150

Thompson, CT — The holiday weekend gets off to a great start this Thursday when the Thompson International Speedway presents the BUD 150 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. This very special race program will feature the WMT along with a full complement of Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series “Super 6” divisions in feature event racing.

The Bud 150 will attract all of the best WMT race teams. This will mark their first return to Thompson since the Icebreaker back in early April. Ted Christopher was victorious in that 150-lap race and will look to repeat that accomplishment on June 30th. But, many others will also be looking to grab the holiday weekend win. Points leader, Rowan Pennink, will look for his first series win and to extend his points lead. Defending series champion, Bobby Santos, will look to improve his position in the standings as will Ronnie Silk, Eric Beers, Matt Hirschman and the Series most recent winner, Todd Szegedy. Seven-time series champ Mike Stefanik, hot off his VMRS win at Thompson, is always a serious contender for the win. Many other Whelen Modified Tour drivers have their sights set on victory lane as well.

The Bud 150 will be the Tour’s final appearance at Thompson before the much anticipated North/South Showdown on the weekend of September 10 & 11. This race is the most talked about event on the 2011 WMT schedule since it will be 300 laps of racing divided into three segments. The first two segments will be 125-lap races for the WMT (north) and the WSMT (south). Segment three will be a combination North & South 50-lap Showdown. Thompson Speedway track owner, Don Hoenig, has been working for a long time to make this race event a reality. Fan response has been overwhelming and everyone is anticipating this first of its kind race for the two Whelen Modified Tours.

Grandstands for the Bud 150 will open at 2 PM and time trials for the WMT cars will get underway at 5:30 PM. Once the WMT time trials have been completed, Thompson’s six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will compete in feature only racing. The actual start time of the Bud 150 is expected to be around 8:45 PM.

Tickets for this very special racing program are available by calling the Thompson track office at 860-923-2280. All major credit cards are accepted and with an advance purchase, fans can avoid the long ticket lines on race day.
