PRACTICE: Newman Shows The Way
Bonsignore 2nd in Whelen Mod session but has engine issues
Loudon, NH — NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ryan Newman got his New Hampshire Motor Speedway weekend off to a fast start Thursday with the top time in practice for Saturday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race.
Newman, who swept the two Whelen Modified Tour races at New Hampshire and won at Bristol Motor Speedway, posted a lap of 29.340 seconds (129.816) around the 1.013-mile oval during the 1 hour, 30 minute session.
Justin Bonsignore was second fastest at 29.656 (128.828). The Holtsville, N.Y., driver had engine issues late in practice, however, and was questionable on whether they would continue.
Ryan Preece was third fastest in practice at 29.616 (128.6060), followed by Ted Christopher and James Civali.
Jimmy Blewett, Bobby Santos, Eric Beers, Todd Szegedy and Ron Silk rounded out the top 10.
Qualifying for the FW Webb 100 is scheduled for Thursday at 4:45 p.m. The race is slated to go green on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
